Busy busy

I’ve been working away in the workshop to build up some stock and fill orders from Maison, I’ll put some pictures up on my blog, I love it when the workshop is full of pots drying out and waiting to be fired.

I also had to write some blurb for a personal statement and thought it might be interesting on here too so here it is!

‘Rachel Dormor started making pots on a potters wheel at 14. After college she worked as a potters apprentice for several years before starting a business with the help of the PrincesTrust in 2001. Recognising the need to keep up with developments in industry and design prompted a move to Stoke on Trent for Rachel and in 2007 she was awarded a bursary to study an MA in Ceramic Design at Staffordshire University. Graduating in 2009 saw the company showcase new products in Paris, Frankfurt, Tokyo and NewYork under the careful eye of Pat Steel, Rachel’s trade advisor at the North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce and the Passport to Export scheme.
In September 2009 Rachel was offered a place on the Enterprise Fellowship Scheme at the University and has used the funding and business support to develop an international tableware company in the heart of ceramic manufacturing. With this support Rachel has managed to enter into negotiations for distribution arrangements with clients in Europe and the USA as well as increasing the number of stockists and the turnover in the UK.’

Gorgeous shops!

I got a lovely email this morning from Pamela who owns Red Ticking in Seattle with a link to a gorgeous website that has a photo of my pots in her store. I love to hear news of where my pots are in the world and it’s comforting to know they go to good homes!

Happy New Year!

I’d love to say the studio was shut while I have a much needed rest but the truth is it’s three and a half weeks until Maison et Objet and I have so much to do! The studio is FREEZING at the moment so pots will have to wait until the snow goes away, but in the meantime we have a photoshoot due, a brochure to plan, a writing contract to finish, and I am finalising the models for the slip cast range, plus launching my own online shop!
The pop up shop has finished now but its given me a taste of having a shop of my own…watch this space!
And, if you are interested in watching a product as it goes to market then follow me on Twitter as I prepare to launch my new collection in Paris this January- search for Potteryrachel
Happy New Year! And also thankyou for all your support over this amazing year!

Pop up shop!

I’ve got the keys to my pop up shop and this weekend I have been painting and cleaning. I am sharing with a group of artists to have a temporary gallery and it opens on Saturday 5th December at Burwash Manor Barns in Cambridgeshire. We are open evey day 10-5 until Christmas eve so come and say hello if you are passing. I’ll put some pictures up on my potteryrachel blog so you can see what we are doing.
I’m launching my new collection this week too with new colours and some new shapes, and I’m going to make it easier for those of you who want to buy online direct from me by listing the whole range on Mydeco and Bouf, until I get my own storefront online.

Lustre

I’m just taking a break from packing the car ready to go to Lustre at the Djanogly Centre, Lakeside, Nottingham. It’s a lovely show and I am looking forward to it. It is also my last direct selling show this year- and the last chance to buy from the current ‘nest’ collection.

The final glaze tests for the new collection are in the kiln now and pieces will be available from 4th December from my pop up shop at Burwash Manor Barns, in Cambridgeshire.
