April 2021

Thanks for checking in on my website. *The studio is still closed to visitors and I don’t plan to run any new workshops until 2022* But I am busy in the studio making new work :)

I am planning to have a spring sale of seconds and old stock at my studio out in the yard on April 17th and 18th 2021 12-4pm (Covid restrictions permitting) My neighbour, Rebecca Greene, will also be having a sale of paintings and sculptures so come along and help us make some space for new work!

In July my studio will be open to visitors for Cambridge Open studios on weekends 2 and 3 (July 10/11th and 17/18th 11-6pm) This year I’m showing with an artist friend and we have a whole collection of new work to show you. We are hoping that open studios can go ahead as normal but if plans change we will adapt. The work I am making is a new collection of decorated terracotta and porcelain dishes and vessels with decoration inspired by my drawings from my garden and walks near home during lockdowns from 2020 and 2021.

I don’t plan to resume teaching from my studio for a few more months as I’m busy with several other arts related projects, and I can’t take any bookings or sell vouchers right now, keep an eye on my Facebook page or Instagram (potteryrachel) to see what’s happening and sign up to my mailing list!

Stay safe and well!

Adapt and change

So much has changed for so many of us in the last few months and my business has had to change in order to survive. I can’t run classes and parties at the moment but I am trialling some very small groups during August to test the water. Classes will have a maximum of four people in order to be able to social distance, and throwing lessons will be for a maximum of two people at a time.

The positive side of teaching less is that I have more time to make ceramics, so keep an eye out for new things coming and coming soon to my amazing stockists in the UK and USA.

Courses and collection slots are all on my Eventbrite page and on my Facebook page, I’ll only list a few weeks ahead as we negotiate our way through the next few months but please email me if you would like to visit the studio. Everything is by appointment only, but you are welcome, just let me know first! Thank you for your support through the last few months, it has made the difference.

Making a hand-built teapot tutorial!

May 16, 2020   No Comments

Let’s go online!

The studio is now closed for for the forseeable future while we work together to stay safe and flatten the curve. I hope to back up and running workshops when I can and I was planning a big party and sale in June to celebrate 10 years at Kidman’s Yard! So look out for that later in the year.

In the meantime my partner has been helping me get a YouTube channel up and running! It’s called Potteryrachel and there will be a mixture of live stream projects that you can join in with, recorded tutorials to watch later and soothing videos of me making things on the wheel. Most of the projects are for things that you can do at home without too much equipment and the throwing tutorials will be at a mixture of levels. There are already some great potters out there making videos so I hope I can compliment those and that my love of teaching and making comes across!

The live stream starts 28th March 2020 at 4pm and here’s the link! Updated link https://youtu.be/l_7hzBpC9FQ

Winter open studios 2019

How is it nearly the end of 2019?

I am pleased to tell you that I will be holding an open studios event at my studio December 7th and 8th 10-4pm. I have guests showing with me so there will be ceramics by Kate Welton and Sheena Grummitt, my amazing assistants! And there will be printed textiles and gifts from my dear friend Lizzy McCaughan, Lizzy also teaches the Friday afternoon ceramics class. We have lots of lovely things for sale and I still have lots of sale stock left that needs a loving home.

I hope you can make it, the address is 29 Kidman’s Yard, Primrose St, Cambridge CB4 3EH.

New courses for 2020 are listed on my Eventbrite page and I have new ceramics being launched in the new year and am keen to hear from new potential stockists.
Happy New Year and thank you for another year of your support.

Open Studio May 2018

Hello!

We’ve been busy prepping the studio for a May open studio event and sale and we’d love you to come along! The studio will be open Saturday 26th May, Sunday 27th, Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th May 10-4 each day. There are lots of events planned so check out my event booking page to book a place on a workshop or tea talk. Visitors welcome to come and browse the sale stock and pots for sale and find out about courses!

I’m delighted that Michelle Comins of Comins Tea House will be giving two talks and tea tastings on Wednesday 30th May. She will be talking about how her company got started, how they source their teas and teaware and there will be an opportunity to taste some of their wonderful teas and hear all about them. There’s a link to their website on my booking page and its www.cominstea.co.uk if you want to find out more about them.

This will be my only open studios event for the summer as I’m not taking part in the July event this year. If you still have pots to collect from workshops in February to April please come along and collect them.

I’ll be updating my mailing list too to be GDPR compliant so look out for a mail-shot but you can catch me over on Instagram to see what’s going on!

Spring 2018

Well the snow slowed us down but it’s gone now so I’ll be in the studio catching up on the kiln firings. If you came to a workshop between January 10th and February 3rd, your work is ready to collect now. If you haven’t picked up work from workshops between September and December please get in touch now to collect your work before it gets destroyed.

I’ll be taking a break from workshops for a few weeks to concentrate on making some new ceramic work and to concentrate on my orders, but please do get in touch if you have a voucher for a workshop or want to book a small group session. The trials for open access studio time are going well so there should be more dates listed soon on my Eventbrite page. I’ve also decided to have a break from Open Studios this year but we have plenty of stock and visitors are welcome to the studio by appointment.

Kettle’s Yard has just re-opened and I’m really thrilled to have my pots for sale in their new shop, this has definitely been one of my goals and I’m really pleased it finally happened!

In the meantime, I’m pleased to have launched the app for Art and Design students that I’ve been developing with Cambridge Assessment and I’ve just written a book for International Art & Design teachers which will be published in May by Cambridge University Press. I’m also thrilled to have written some projects for Access Art which will be available to download from their website very soon, time for a well deserved rest I think!
