Spring 2018

Well the snow slowed us down but it’s gone now so I’ll be in the studio catching up on the kiln firings. If you came to a workshop between January 10th and February 3rd, your work is ready to collect now. If you haven’t picked up work from workshops between September and December please get in touch now to collect your work before it gets destroyed.

I’ll be taking a break from workshops for a few weeks to concentrate on making some new ceramic work and to concentrate on my orders, but please do get in touch if you have a voucher for a workshop or want to book a small group session. The trials for open access studio time are going well so there should be more dates listed soon on my Eventbrite page. I’ve also decided to have a break from Open Studios this year but we have plenty of stock and visitors are welcome to the studio by appointment.

Kettle’s Yard has just re-opened and I’m really thrilled to have my pots for sale in their new shop, this has definitely been one of my goals and I’m really pleased it finally happened!

In the meantime, I’m pleased to have launched the app for Art and Design students that I’ve been developing with Cambridge Assessment and I’ve just written a book for International Art & Design teachers which will be published in May by Cambridge University Press. I’m also thrilled to have written some projects for Access Art which will be available to download from their website very soon, time for a well deserved rest I think!

Change is in the air!

September always feels like the start of the year to me, maybe its all those years of working in a college but there’s definitely a freshness in the air and new things around the corner.

Evening classes start again this week and are full but please contact me if you would like to go on the waiting list. I’m offering lots of weekend workshops and some half day sessions too to keep up with demand. If you got a voucher this year and haven’t cashed it in please email me to book up or have it extended, all the info is on the voucher.

I’ve been working on a new collection of work this year which is decorated with slips and lustres, its available now from my shop at Burwash or from Primavera in Cambridge. I’m working on some much larger works this year and have been throwing pots with 9kg of clay! Look out for the big reveal later this year….There are sale bargains in my shop as I sell off the last of my older collection so if you’ve got your eye on something head over to the shop.

And so that brings me to the change, my adorable shop at Burwash will be closing on October 15th so I can concentrate on the workshop and my own work. I’ve also been teaching in Leicester, developing some digital teaching resources and writing some A levels for Cambridge University, and weirdly, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to fit it all in!

Here’s the link to see what workshops are running this autumn, there will be a small price increase in January and we have kept some days back for private workshops or small groups so if you want to get together with some friends just get in touch to book a session.

See you at the fair!

Where does the time go? It has been a really busy start to the year with two large trade orders and two big shows to get ready for. Its been stop start though with illness, exploding punch bowls and glazes that don’t do as they should.

The good news is that I am all set up at the Country Living Spring Fair! I had such a nice time last year that I booked the same spot so I’m on MB82. This year I am thrilled to be showing as the gallery and sharing my space with Jo Tunmer and Birgitte Bruun. We have some very beautiful work to show, all made especially for the show so come and see us! Check out my photos on Twitter and Instagram @potteryrachel

Here’s the link for the discounted tickets here enter code EX16S25

Over at the gallery its the last chance to see Tess Ainley’s beautiful collage and stitch work and we have some stoneware bowls with scrafitto mark-making by Sarah Jenkins. Showing in the graduate showcase is work by Kate Welton and we’ve just had a new delivery of tea towels with sheds on by Andy McKenzie. There’s lots to see at Burwash so come for some spring sunshine.

In the studio there are still places on the beginners throwing day on April 9th and a few places left on the easter holiday workshops. I’ll be listing the autumn workshops at Easter so sign up to the mailing list now to be the first to know. Here’s the booking

Hello 2016!

Happy new year, bring on the spring!

Thank you to everyone who came to the shop or studio last year and for those of you who were inspired by the Great British Pottery Throwdown and signed up to a workshop!

It’s sale time over at the shop so come along and say hello. We have 20% off everything excluding vouchers, workshops and paint a pot. So if you had your eye on something and can’t live without it now’s the time. Our new exhibition starts on 20th January with a collection of works inspired by text and lettering. Including new work by me as I change direction and work on some pieces with more surface decoration. My new pieces are launching at Top Drawer as part of Craft, at Olympia in London 17-19th January and I’m on stand C-E25 in the Craft section. I’m also working on the lighting and decorative features for a pub which is opening in February so more about that later….. and making the tableware for a new cafe in Bath which opens in March! Before you know it, it will be time for the Country Living Spring Fair again.

Over in the shop we are hoping to run a Monday morning drawing class, led by Alice Thompson. So if your resolution is to be more creative, get in touch. We need 5 people to make a group and it starts on 11th January at 10.30am, email me for more information info We’ve got the paint a pot all set up at the shop, no need to book.

At the studio, the evening classes start again w/c 25th January but they are full already. There are places in the daytime ceramics classes, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning and Friday afternoon. Please contact me to book these as they are not all listed on the booking page.

I’m adding more dates to the weekend workshops and if you were lucky enough to get a voucher please email me to book up, or arrange a day for your session. Here’s the booking page

Happy New Year!
